This applies to VAIO computers that have on-board SigmaTel High Definition

driver as explained below.

To perform this procedure, you must log on with or provide the credentials
of a member of the local Administrators group.

  1. Click the Start button, right-click Computer,
    and then click Manage.
  2. The User Account Control message will appear, click Continue.
  3. Click Device Manager.
  4. In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game
    controllers
    .
  5. Right-click SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, and then
    click Uninstall.
  6. In the Confirm Device Uninstall dialog box, select the
check box in front of Delete the driver software for this
    device and click OK.
  7. Go to the VAIO Update website and install the latest audio driver.
  8. If no updated audio driver is available for your model, double-click setup.exe
in the C:\Drivers\Audio folder located on your hard disk
drive to reinstall the audio driver.
